The Chica Show is an original series created by Sprout. It is a preschool show about a puppet named Chica who, along with her parents and friend Kelly, runs a costume shop known as The Costume Coop, and when the shop closes, she and her friends become animated and go on an adventure. It is a mix between live-action and animation.

The show premiered on November 24th, 2012. To promote its premiere, Chica pressed on the logo in the Sprout screenbug amid shows (such as Justin Time and Poppy Cat) making the characters imitate her, and a promo of real people in a park imitating her was made. These were written, produced, and edited by Marc Cantone, and The Sunny Side Up Show made a parody of The Voice called "The Squeak" to promote. Mr. and Mrs. C guested together on The Sunny Side Up Show with Chica and Sean,[1] and a sneak peek aired on October 31. It aired at 9:00AM, 11:30AM, 1:00PM, 5:45PM, and 8:00PM ET. The last new episode aired in December 2014, but reruns continued to air until July 2017. However, the show returned to Universal Kids on May 20, 2019, along with Moon and Me and Mofy, but stopped airing in early 2020. However, the show reaired on the network on December 24th and 25th, 2022.

History

The show was convinced after Chica became a popular character and dolls of the chicken immediately sold out. Originally, the show was going to take place in a farmers' market and focus on nutrition and healthy eating.

To promote the show, Chica appeared on the Sprout screenbug during shows such as Poppy Cat and Justin Time, causing the characters to make noises imitating her.

The show also aired Saturday mornings on NBC Kids as of 2013.

To promote the show's second season in 2013, Sprout held the Call the Coop Contest, in which children could call Kelly via a video and a winner would receive a gift box.
